Physiotherapist for Qld Rugby "Subbies" Team

Congratulations to the Queensland Suburban Rugby Union Team who fought out a tough 22-all draw in the Barraclough Shield.

Team physiotherapist, Rohan Davies, who travelled with the Queensland team to Sydney said the boys performed extremely well against a very tough NSW opposition.

Why are Hamstring Tears Tricky?



Hamstring injuries are common among high speed and kicking activities such as runners, footballers and martial arts.

The hamstring muscles run down the back of the leg from the pelvis to the back of your knee. An injury can range from minor strains to total rupture of the muscle. The four muscles that make up the hamstrings are the semitendinosus and semimembranosus (medially) and the biceps femoris - long and short head (laterally).

A sudden, sharp pain in the back of the thigh that may stop you mid-stride characterizes a hamstring injury. After such an injury, the knee may not extend more than 30 to 40 degrees short of straight without intense pain.

Common Basketball Injuries



Basketball injuries are generally defined as either acute/traumatic or overuse injuries.

Acute or traumatic injuries occur due to a sudden force, or impact, such as a fall or a stumble. Overuse injuries occur over time due to stress on the muscles, joints and soft tissues without proper time for healing. They begin as a small, nagging ache or pain, and can grow into a nasty debilitating injury if they aren't treated early.
